During six days in Nicaragua, a team of 12 from Coastal Bible Fellowship, which included some students from Truett McConnell University, served alongside Chosen Children Ministry in the Carlos Fonseca community. The week blended evangelism, discipleship, children’s ministry, and practical compassion for families living in extreme poverty.
The team worshipped with a growing local church that has developed from meeting under a tree to now gathering more than 100 adults and children each week. Daily ministry included going door to door to share the Gospel, pray with families, invite neighbors to church programs, and listen to their needs. Each afternoon, the team led VBS for about 50 children and taught more than 100 adults in discipleship sessions focused on finishing strong in the faith, spiritual warfare, living faith, and the blessing of walking with God. Over the course of the week, 16 people trusted Christ, many believers were strengthened, and several who had drifted away from church returned.
A simple home was fully built and furnished for a local family, providing safe shelter, a dry cement floor, beds, a table and chairs, and a propane stove. Four additional beds and food were delivered to families who had been sleeping on dirt floors. More than 90 Scripture signs from Joshua 24:15 were placed on homes as a visible declaration of faith, and over 300 people were served during a community feeding.
Beyond projects and programs, the greatest impact was relational. The team formed meaningful friendships with local believers, encouraged the pastor and church leaders, and witnessed God at work in both spiritual and physical ways. The week was marked by prayer, joy, bold faith sharing, and a powerful reminder that God uses willing servants and faithful prayer to bring light into dark places.
